"City Lights" Lyrics

Back story:

I wrote this song while being held at RHU when I was being medically discharged from the Army this past November. It’s about reigniting my relationship with Adam, when I took an impromptu red eye flight to Boston to see him, 48 hours before I had to return to duty to Ft. Leonardwood, after being on con leave for my hip and knee injuries. He told me he would “regret it” if we didn’t do it, and I’m glad we did. We’ve been back together ever since.

City Lights

My head is spinning in Boston Logan Airport,

my lungs are begging for their

normal air support.

Got memories that I need to sift through,

but right now,

I just need to see you.

My heart is aching,

with all of this waiting.

And I, get a little bit shy,

I see you looking, black tee shirt,

eyes wide in the open.

Big city lights,

and spinning glass doors.

Tell me baby please,

that I’m gonna be yours.

Breathe in, breathe out

(oh the city the lights, the city lights)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(I cannot fight, I cannot fight)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(I’m yours for life, I’m yours for life)

I get a little bit shy,

but I come alive tonight.

All alone, hotel queen bed.

Saying things, that you and I have

never said.

All this time, I never stopped loving you.

You whisper things,

that I always hoped were true.

My heart is aching,

with all of this waiting.

And I, get a little bit shy,

I see you looking, black tee shirt,

eyes wide in the open.

Big city lights,

and spinning glass doors.

Tell me baby please,

that I’m gonna be yours.

Breathe in, breathe out

(oh the city the lights, the city lights)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(I cannot fight, I cannot fight)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(I’m yours for life, I’m yours for life)

I get a little bit shy,

but I come alive tonight.

Don’t say another word,

let’s leave this where it stands.

Whatever bridge we come to,

just promise to take my hand.

Oh and,

Breathe in, breathe out

(let’s leave behind the city lights)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(stay by my side, oh by my side)

Breathe in, breathe out,

(I’m going to love you all my life)

I get a little bit shy,

but I’m going to love you all my life.
